A true story of abundance

A true story of abundance. I’m 21 years old living in San Francisco working with schizophrenic children as an internship with two roommates. We’re supposed to get the deposit back for all three of us but the landlord only gives it for two of us but we still head for Mexico on a bus as planned. Long story short. At the end of our adventure I have five dollars left and 10 days until my plane leaves from Tucson. My roommate and I had skimped and saved and argued about who should get more of the cold drink. It was slim pickings for sure. He had to head off to WashingtonD.C., for his law school interview so I was left alone. The first night I sleep on the beach and people give me peanut butter and jelly with sandy white bread. Someone comes by on a horse and I fulfill a lifelong dream to ride a horse along the beach. The local bartender gives me water. As I’m drinking my water a man asked me about myself.
I share my situation. The man is an American real estate agent and offered me my own house with a maid and a key. I say sure as long as you don’t expect any monkey business. He takes me out every night for glorious meals. All is well until the last night where he wants to change the arrangement. I say a gracious no and head back to my locked house. Yes I had to hitchhike to the bus but c’est la vie. I got back to Chicago where was attending University with a dime in my pocket which is what it cost to make a phone call and I had held onto at all cost.
I tell that story now because neither of my parents knew I had even gone to Mexico. And yes it was risky and yes it turned out amazingly. A gentle reminder to self that abundance shows up in many forms.
