Community and how it sets us free

For a year from 2015-2016 I facilitated “The Way of Mastery” with an “inmate” at our local jail. We met each week and I grew to love him so much. I have spent the day cleaning up old paper work, getting things done, clearing out pockets of density in my bedroom and came across a letter he sent to me 2/10/16. I feel powerfully connected to him in this moment. He was sent to rehab and I met him once more about a year later and he was still hanging on.
He was a heroin addict and had 2 “death” experiences one of which required 26 minutes of mouth to mouth/ CPR. I heard how hard it was, coming from his background, hanging around the people he spent time with, to break free of the failure/ loser mindset. Yet he was deeply committed. At the end of our time together he was someone I deeply respected and yes loved/ love. I feel so close to him in this moment. I am not sure how he is doing but I hope very well. When last I heard he was still “out.” I hope he will not mind that I quote him. If anyone knows who I mean and how he is, please let me know.
His message is touching me so deeply as I know it is so true. Please join with me heart to heart with my dear friend Jess. He was reaching out to people in the community and writing letters to anyone who inspired him and getting amazing results, so much support. He would write these are people that, Jess wrote to me, “under and other circumstances would never have crossed paths with- (yet) THEY RESPOND. The is the POWER of honestly seeking. THIS IS COMMUNITY. Community isn’t just where you live. WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER. All of our journeys have ups and downs. When we realize we’re ALL on a journey and that we can ALL benefit from one another’s experiences as well as maybe benefit someone else’s journey-things start looking up.” (emphasis his) Yes, Jess they do, from my heart to yours, may you fare well, may we all fare well.
