celebrating life and death

I just celebrated the life of a man I barely knew. Though few knew him well until he began the death process,  his death has pulled this community together and helped so many people change their minds and hearts toward death. Hearing everyone’s experience was a joyful, alive adventure and helped me recognize I have many unexamined stories still running me, some about death. The rich conversation that ensued on such a wide range of topics was truly something to appreciate. That my 14 1/2 year old daughter has been exposed to such a varied experience of death, of divorce, of conversations about suicide, meaning, love, wow, not the way I was raised when so much was taboo including emotions. It makes me so hopeful for the future.
